Burness Communications, Inc., a Bethesda, MD based communications firm committed to social change, is seeking an Accountant.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Daily cash report for management
  • Record all online bank activity in General ledger and Billing program
  • Handle all expense payments, including bills received, consultant invoices, etc.
  • Scan all incoming checks for deposit, as well as recording in G/L and Billing program
  • Maintain all projects, reports, expenses, etc. in billing program
  • Confirm staff time is entered weekly
  • Weekly expense reimbursements to staff by ACH deposit
  • Prepare staff billing reports for management monthly
  • Prepare 1099-NECs for all consultants
  • Prepare monthly invoices for all clients, including work descriptions and expense receipt files
  • Enter invoices prepared into General ledger
  • Bank reconciliations for all accounts, including credit card accounts
  • Prepare donation checks for company, including a matching program for staff
  • Answer all inquiries regarding invoices from clients, budget questions from managers, and other accounting issues from vendors, employees, management

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, CPA preferred
  • knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • knowledge of finance principles
  • knowledge of financial reporting
  • technical accounting skills
  • previous experience of general accounting
  • proficiency in QuickBooks and/or BillQuick/Core a plus
