Michael Stulman, vice president, brings more than 15 years of experience in media, communications and digital storytelling to Burness.  

Prior to joining Burness in 2021, Michael managed global communications for an international humanitarian and development organization. Based in Dakar, Senegal, for more than eight years, Michael was responsible for building communications strategies, writing and editing stories and developing messaging for more than 35 country programs across Africa. 

Michael has traveled extensively throughout Africa, leveraging his communications expertise on issues ranging from infectious diseases, malaria and global health to agriculture, food security and climate change.  

Michael has led the development and promotion of positive, human-interest stories with a range of public and private funding institutions, including The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the United States Agency for International Development, The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, the UK Department for International Development and others. He is a professional photographer with a trained eye for compelling, visual stories. 

 He has extensive relationships with US-based journalists and foreign correspondents, with a proven track record of pitching story ideas and angles for TV, print and broadcast news. Michael speaks both English and French. 

 In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and three children in Baltimore, Maryland.
