Andrea is a global communications specialist with over seven years of experience amplifying the voices of Indigenous Peoples and advancing climate justice. As a senior associate at Burness, she leads media strategies that shape international conversations on land rights, biodiversity and environmental justice. She manages our grant with the Ford Foundation and activities with other groups working with Indigenous Peoples, local communities and Afro-descendant Peoples.
Before joining Burness, Andrea was the Communications Coordinator for the Global Alliance of Territorial Communities, where she led media efforts across multiple platforms, securing top-tier coverage in The New York Times, El País, Infobae, EFE and Mongabay. She also managed high-profile events, particularly at UN climate and biodiversity conferences (UNFCCC and UN CBD).
Her career spans nonprofit organizations, grassroots media and PR agencies in both Bolivia and the United Kingdom, where she has developed a strategic approach that blends advocacy with compelling storytelling.
A Chevening Scholar, Andrea holds a master’s degree in Media for Development and Social Change from the University of Sussex. She is a published author, with research focused on the experiences of Indigenous women — cholas — living in urban centers and redefining fashion trends.
Based in La Paz, Bolivia, Andrea is fluent in English and Spanish and proficient in Portuguese. In her free time, she enjoys pottery and yoga.
