Abubakr works with Burness clients focused on climate and environment, agriculture, global health and Indigenous Peoples. He is instrumental in helping to deliver successful communications strategies including organizing projects, writing media and digital materials, managing media relations, and conducting research and analysis. Abubakr regularly engages journalists at the global, regional and national levels across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. He also conducts media training in Spanish and English. 

Prior to Burness, Abu was an editorial associate at the Children’s Defense Fund, and started and ran a nonprofit for talibés in Dakar, Senegal.  

Fluent in Spanish, he holds a B.A. in Global Studies from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain and studied at Yale-NUS College in Singapore where he wrote a thesis on urban food insecurity. 

When he’s not at work, you can often find him running, swimming or on long excursions in his native Washington, D.C., with his corgi, Remi.
