A Summer Like No Other
Having access to learning opportunities this summer is more important than ever as the pandemic has forced young people to miss out on so much for so long.
Laurie is an experienced writer, editor, trainer, team leader and problem solver. She specializes in crafting strategic communications plans, message development, message training, and translating research for general and policy audiences.
At Burness, Laurie leads strategic projects primarily focused on issues related to children’s health and education. She helps develop and oversee campaigns that aim to make schools healthier, expand educational opportunities for youth, address childhood obesity, and increase broadband access in rural communities. This has included work with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Afterschool Alliance, Mott Foundation and Dogwood Health Trust.
Before joining Burness, Laurie was the associate director of communications at the George Washington University School of Law. She also served as an adjunct instructor at Northern Virginia Community College, where she taught lifetime wellness.
Laurie earned a M.S. in nutrition, exercise and eating behaviors from George Washington University. She lives in Mooresville, North Carolina, with her husband Robert and their four very active children.
