Nick joined Burness in 2007 and has worked both domestically and internationally on issues including climate change, health policy, public health, biomedical research, community health, and global health. He provides strategic counsel and guidance, writing support, training and coaching, and message testing for a diverse group of organizations that include the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The Mayday Fund, the Medical Society Consortium on Climate & Health, and the Aspen Institute.
As co-director of Burness’ training programs, Nick develops new curriculum and has led hundreds of highly interactive in-person and virtual workshops and training sessions for foundations, nonprofits, and universities working on health, science and social justice issues. He has worked with thousands of scientists, advocates, researchers, and leaders in workshops ranging from two hours to three days, covering topics including message development, working with media, storytelling, op-ed writing, effective presentations, and crisis communications.
Nick leads Burness’ communications research and message testing efforts and has published guidance on communicating about climate change, health and equity, and conducted message testing on topics ranging from public health, extreme heat, and SNAP policy, to hearing loss prevention and advocating to reduce prescription drug costs.
Nick is a 2007 graduate of the George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs and university honors program with a bachelor of arts in political communication.
