Laura O’Connor, senior associate, has 18 years of communications and marketing experience. She joined Burness in 2019 and provides strategic communications support related to children’s health and afterschool programs. Her background includes strategic planning, message development, media relations, digital communications, storytelling, fundraising, grant writing, and editing.

Prior to Burness, Laura led the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s marketing department, where she developed and led strategy for media, digital marketing and engagement, and policy campaigns, primarily to support the organization’s school and afterschool efforts. During her career, she’s also served as the director of communications at The SEED Foundation and SEED school network and marketing studio manager for an international architecture firm.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech, with a double major in communications and human services. After spending 16 years living and working in Washington, DC, Laura now lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan with her husband Dominic. In her free time, she is an adult literacy tutor, a committee member for Girls on the Run of Southeastern Michigan, and a board member for the Dispute Resolution Center. She also enjoys practicing yoga and boxing, as well as running, hiking, and other activities that get her outdoors, even in the Michigan winter.
