At Burness, we promote ideas that inspire and drive social change worldwide. In the past three decades Burness has worked with more than 600 nonprofits in the U.S. and around the world. Our partners are changemakers in spaces like health, science, education, climate change, food and agriculture, and more. If you are looking to be a leader in all things digital content for clients big and small both here in the U.S. and around the world, this job could be the job for you.
We are looking for a digital strategist with a strong background in content creation, project management, and digital campaign creation and implementation. Starting salary for this role is $73,000. This position will be based in our Bethesda, Md office. Burness offers a hybrid work schedule. DC-Maryland-Virginia-based employees are expected to work from our headquarters two days per week, with one of those days being a Tuesday or Wednesday.
You are a great fit for this role if you are able to:

  • Create digital content that is on-brand, optimized for each platform and creative enough to stand out in constantly-moving feeds and overcrowded inboxes.
  • Translate complicated and dense research, data or policy into digital-friendly language that compels target audiences to act and engage.
  • Execute successful digital engagement and awareness campaigns across digital platforms (primarily social — but also email, ads, video, websites and more) that are grounded in digital best practices, are data-driven, and are tailored to meet the specific goals and audiences of clients.
  • Confidently participate in client-facing calls, strategy sessions, and in-person meetings and communicate clearly with clients over email and slack.
  • Work collaboratively with team members, clients and outside vendors to juggle multiple needs throughout the day.
  • Know when to ask for help and how to problem-solve independently.
  • Never miss deadlines and project manage with the best of them.

You may find yourself doing these types of things from day to day:

  • Drafting and/or reviewing social content for a variety of clients, campaigns, and platforms
  • Setting social dissemination strategy for a creative product or campaign —  e.g., made-for-social video or digital ad campaign
  • Creating a digital report to help a client understand performance of their program or campaign
  • Leading a digital audit of a client’s social program, website, etc. — including writing and presenting a digital strategy based on findings
  • Giving feedback on digital content drafted by a client or colleague
  • Creating budgets, strategy documents, memos, and project timelines

Three to four years of experience in social media or general digital strategy required. Previous agency experience (or equivalent external stakeholder communication) strongly preferred. Burness offers an extensive benefits package, competitive pay and an overall great place to work.
